9/11/2025 |  Women’s Lacrosse League Moving to Full Season Schedule in 2026 (SportsTravel) The Women’s Lacrosse League will expand its competition calendar to a full season and playoffs starting in 2026 featuring the original four teams over 11 weekends of games.
The Boston Guard, New York Charging, Maryland Charm and California Palms will expand rosters to 23 players through a roster expansion draft. The Women’s Lacrosse League will also hold a college draft ahead of the 2026 season. The 2026 season will be in the 10 versus 10 game format which debuted at the 2025 WLL All-Star Game.
7/14/2025 |  USA Lacrosse to Host Atlas Cup in September (SportsTravel) USA Lacrosse will welcome men’s and women’s teams from Canada and the Haudenosaunee Nation as part of the Atlas Cup in September in Maryland for a sixes tournament, the same format that will be used at the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles.
7/9/2025 |  PLL and WLL play lacrosse’s first game on water as sports leagues consider alternative venues (Gist Sports, The) Tomorrow, the men’s Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and its new women’s arm, the Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL), will be playing the sport’s first-ever match on a river — a stunt tied to mutual brand partner Whirlpool.
 
6/26/2025 |  ESPN takes minority stake in Premier Lacrosse League (AXIOS Sports) ESPN has renewed its media rights deal with Premier Lacrosse League, and also made a minority investment in the league.
Why it matters: This marks a shift in ESPN's strategy as it looks to invest in growth areas outside of traditional television.
  • A strategic investment in PLL gives ESPN more incentive to work with the the league on effective distribution. 
6/26/2025 |  ESPN renews media deal with professional lacrosse, takes an equity stake in the league (CNBC Sports)
  • ESPN has renewed a media rights agreement with the Premier Lacrosse League.
  • The five-year deal will begin with the 2026 season and include all PLL regular-season games as well as All-Star, playoff and championship games and Women’s Lacrosse League games.
  • Disney-owned ESPN said it will take a minority stake in the league.
