The Nets played temporarily in Newark while a new arena was under construction for them in Brooklyn. The team formerly played in the Meadowlands at the Izod Center.
The Atlantic Yards project has more than 6,000 apartments, high-rise towers and a hotel on 22 acres near Downtown Brooklyn. And soon it will have a hockey team. Just before its opening, the Islanders announced they would move from Long Island to the venue in 2015.
The arena is part of a $2.5 billion development. Owner Bruce Ratner said he would fund the $500 million arena by borrowing from the city against future revenue generated by ticket sales.
What Ratner didn’t count on was a major economic crisis that would stall the project and delay the arena. By the end of 2009, Ratner had met his deadlines and finalized funding for the venue. While work has begun, there are still legal challenges ahead for the venue, but none are expected to stop its construction.
The arena’s 104 luxury suites include 63 on the lower suite level, just above the lower-level seats.
The Barclays Center has created an entire loge section featuring box seats with unlimited grub, access to the exclusive 40/40 Club and a separate arena entrance for $165 per game.
The 160 Nets box seats are located just above the lower level. Four-seat boxes are priced from $29,040 to $54,120.
As for food, the venue is capitalizing on the community's growing food community by bringing in bites from more than 30 vendors and restaurants from across the borough. (Basketball, Facilities, Financial, NBA, Professional Sports)
