The GIST: Don’t look now, but there might be some magic in the making in the Eastern Conference (EC) Final. Fighting back from the brink of elimination, the Boston Celtics are still alive after last night’s enormous Game 5 win.

Game 5 recap: The Celtics pounced on the depleted Miami Heat squad, winning 110–97 at home to cut the series deficit to 3-2 and hand the Heat their first consecutive losses of the postseason.

  • Boston’s dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were outstanding, but this W was a team effort, with four starters scoring in double-digits and the full squad shutting down the Heat defensively.

What’s next: Game 6, of course, which tips off in Miami tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. ET. With a win, the Heat will become just the second No. 8 seed to reach the finals.

  • But if the Celtics can push this to Game 7 on Monday and emerge as EC Final champions, they’ll be the first NBA team to ever overcome a 3-0 hole to win a playoff series. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but history has its eyes on Boston.
